Newly appointed Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami
stressing that Imam Khomeini Airport City should become a hub in the region
through development of the transit section, said by adhering to the
timetable for the implementation of projects, no time and opportunity should
be wasted to accomplish this job.
The minister who was on his first inspection tour of Imam Khomeini Airport
City said: “IKAC should become a gem in the region.” He further remarked
that in this largest airport complex, realization of the share of the
passenger and cargo on the basis of combined transportation with the focus
on air transport should be set as an aspiration and realization of its goals
should be accelerated.
Referring to the importance of adhering to the timetables in realization of
the targets, he said qualitative and quantitative goals should be fulfilled
within a specific time schedule.
Gradual Movement Tantamount to Losing Opportunities
The minister noted that financial models for investment should be applied
through attracting investment by implementing different methods such as BLT,
BOO, BOT, or EPCF in order to achieve realization of the goals.
Underlining the need for attraction of investment in Imam Khomeini Airport
City, Eslami said attracting investors should be in such a way that all the
targeted goals would be realized within the scheduled time so that a
powerful hub of passenger and cargo will be witnessed there and the
capability for progress would become ever-increasing.
Commenting on the advantages of a free zone in IKAC, the minister said:
“Presence of a free zone can greatly help develop transportation, increase
flights and lead to improvement of aviation. But, cargo loading here should
not result in congestion.”
He added that the complex should be equipped with a special highway so that
passengers would reach the city center quickly. This route should be
centered around the economy of a region that focuses on combined
transportation with concentration on air transport.
Eslami referred to the importance of the expansion of transit flights in
IKAC and said: parallel with the construction of Salam Terminal
complementary investment should have been launched for the development of
aviation in this complex. He said the volume of passenger transit can be
increased when there are connection flights.
“If the volume
of transit is increased the targeted growth could be reached. The transit
volume would be increased through the practice of stable, uninterrupted and
quality programs and by taking advantage of comprehensive and complementary
services,” the minister noted.
